India Eyes Milestone: 100 Ramsar Wetland Sites Soon

India is set to expand its Ramsar wetland sites from 85 to 100, a leap from 26 sites in 2014, marking its commitment to global biodiversity. Environment Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh announced this at COP16 in Colombia, showcasing India’s role in preserving these crucial ecosystems. Wetlands support the water cycle, control floods, and provide habitats for diverse species. Globally, 2,522 Ramsar sites protect valuable ecosystems.
